JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a nationwide engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various undergraduate engineering programs across India. The exam is divided into two papers: Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech and Paper 2 for B.Arch and B.Planning courses.

  • JEE Main 2025 will be conducted in two sessions - January and April. Paper 1 is compulsory for all candidates, while Paper 2 is optional for those aspiring to pursue B.Arch or B.Planning degrees. Each paper is three hours long and consists of 90 questions carrying a total of 300 marks.

The exam pattern for JEE Main 2025 remains consistent across both sessions. Paper 1 has two sections: Section A with 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Section B with 10 numerical value questions (NVQs) per subject. Candidates are required to attempt any 5 out of the 10 NVQs in each subject. Negative marking applies to both sections.

Detailed JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern

Candidates must answer only five out of the ten NVQs in each subject on Paper 1. Those aiming for a B.Arch degree need to take the Drawing test in Paper 2A. Meanwhile, candidates aiming for a B.Planning degree must attempt the Planning-Based Questions in Paper 2B.

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2025 for B.E/B.Tech (Paper 1) 

The exam will be conducted in computer-based test mode and will have a total duration of 3 hours (4 hours for persons with benchmark disabilities). The paper will consist of 90 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, out of which candidates need to answer only 75 questions.

Each subject will have two sections:

  • Section A: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options and only one correct answer.

  • Section B: 10 Numerical Value Type Questions, from which candidates need to attempt any 5.

The marking scheme for JEE Main 2025 Paper 1 is as follows:

  • For each correct answer in MCQ type questions, 4 marks will be awarded.

  • For each incorrect answer in MCQ type questions, 1 mark will be deducted.

  • For each correct answer in Numerical Value Type questions, 4 marks will be awarded.

  • No negative marking for incorrect or unattempted Numerical Value Type questions.

The total marks for JEE Main Paper 1 are 300. The medium of the paper will be English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
