As the year 2024 approaches, aspiring candidates must familiarize themselves with the NEET eligibility criteria to ensure they meet the necessary requirements and enhance their chances of success. NEET Eligibility: Highlights

The NEET eligibility criteria for appearing in the NEET UG 2024 Exam are as follows:

  • Minimum age requirement: Aspirants must have attained the age of 17 as of December 31 the year they seek admission.
  • Maximum age limit: No upper age limit is imposed for the exam, allowing individuals of all ages to participate.
  • Citizenship eligibility: Indian citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and foreign nationals are all eligible to appear in the exam.
  • Additionally, it is important to note that NEET has become mandatory not only for those aspiring to study medicine abroad but also for those who intend to return to India to practice medicine. 
  • This recent development ensures that all candidates who fulfill the eligibility as mentioned above NEET eligibility criteria and complete the application process within the given deadline will be eligible to take the undergraduate medical entrance test.

NEET Eligibility: Qualifying Exam Requirements

The NEET 2024 Qualifying Exam requires candidates to have passed 12 or an equivalent exam from a recognized board, with Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects. Aspiring candidates who are currently in Class 12 or an equivalent program are also eligible to apply for NEET. The eligibility marks for NEET 2024 vary for each category and are as follows: UR – 50%, OBC/SC/ST – 40%, and PWD – 40%. Notably, these NEET eligibility marks are based on the aggregate marks obtained in the PCB subjects. Furthermore, there is no limit on the maximum number of attempts for the NTA NEET 2024.

NEET Eligibility: Eligibility Criteria for NRI/Foreign Students

  • Firstly, candidates who completed their education outside the country must fulfill the NEET eligibility criteria. 
  • They must have passed the last exam, equivalent to Class 12 in their respective country. 
  • Candidates had to study Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for the qualifying exam and pass both the theory and practical exams in each of these subjects as well as English.
  • NRIs, OCI, & Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges, subject to rules & regulations framed by the respective State Govts., Institutions, and the Govt. of India, as applicable.
  • Similarly, foreign applicants for NEET 2024 must upload Documentary Proof to support their Nationality, along with the online NEET application form.

NEET Eligibility: What is the Upper age limit?

The NEET 2024 UG age limit, subject restrictions, and the type of school requirement have been lifted according to the revised NEET eligibility criteria in 2024. In the latest update by the health ministry, it has been announced that there is no longer an upper age limit for the NEET exam 2024. The NMC released an official notification on March 9, 2022, stating that the age limit for NEET eligibility criteria has been removed. As a result, candidates above the age of 17 are now eligible to apply for the NEET examination. 

NEET Eligibility: Criteria for BSc Nursing Admission

Students seeking nursing admission through NEET scores can check the latest eligibility criteria. 

The NEET eligibility criteria include the following:

  • The minimum age requirement is that candidates should be seventeen years as of December 31, 2024.
  • Candidates should have passed Class 12 with biology, physics, chemistry, and English as compulsory subjects for the qualifying examination.
  • General category students are required to pass the qualifying exam, obtaining a minimum aggregate of 45% marks. 
  • The minimum marks required for ST, SC, and OBC candidates are 40%.
  • At last, regarding the reservation policy, 3% of the reservation will be provided to the PWD (Person with Disability) candidates.

NEET Eligibility: Details of Qualifying Examination Codes for NEET 2024

Code 01: Candidates appearing for their Class 10+2 exam and waiting for their board's result must choose Code 01. However, they must have qualified for their Class 12 as per the specified criterion by the time of admission; otherwise, they will become ineligible.

Code 02: Aspirants studying for the higher/senior secondary examination or ICSE equivalent to the Class 12 examination and coming after a period of 12 years of study should select Code 02. According to the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), the last two years of this study must include science subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Biotechnology, & Maths or any other elective subject with English taken as a core subject. 

Code 03: Candidates who have successfully completed their Intermediate/Pre-degree Exam in Science from an Indian University/Board or other recognized body, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, & English as a compulsory subject, must choose Code 03. The course should also have a practical test in science subjects. Candidates whose Class 12 is completed by a state board must also select this code.

Code 04: Candidates who have completed a Pre-professional/Pre-medical Exam after passing either the Higher Secondary Exam or the equivalent exam with Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Biotechnology, and English should choose Code 04 while applying. 

Code 05: Candidates pursuing a three years degree course from a recognized University and have qualified for the first year, including practical tests in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, with those subjects being mandatory, must choose Code 05. It is important to note that the qualifying exam here must be a University Exam, and candidates should have passed the earlier qualifying exam, namely 10+2, with Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core courses.

Code 06: Candidates who qualify for the BSc Exam from an Indian recognized University and have passed the earlier qualifying exam (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, English & Biology, with not less than 2 of the subjects Chemistry, Physics, & Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology, must select Code 06 during the application process.

Code 07: Candidates should select this option if they have passed any other exam that has been determined to be comparable to the Intermediate Science Exam of an Indian University or Board, which covers the final two years of 10+2 study in the subjects of physics, chemistry, and biology/biotechnology and includes practical tests in these subjects. This code is also applicable to candidates who have completed the qualifying exam from a foreign country.

NEET Eligibility: Minimum Age Limit

The NEET age limit for appearing for the medical entrance test is the main concern of every aspirant regarding the NEET eligibility criteria for 2024. According to the NEET 2024 eligibility criteria, candidates must complete 17 years of age at admission or before December 31, 2024. 

NEET Eligibility: Number of Attempts

In 2018, amendments were made to the NEET UG eligibility criteria, removing the restrictions on the number of attempts for NEET. Consequently, there is no longer a limit on the number of attempts for NEET 2024. As per the NEET eligibility criteria, candidates who meet the NEET requirements will have the opportunity to participate in the entrance exam as many times as they desire.
