NEET Exam Pattern 2024

The NEET 2024 examination will be conducted offline, in a pen-paper-based format, where students will be required to record their responses on an OMR sheet.

Other Key Features of the NEET 2024 Exam Pattern:

  • Total Sections: The question paper will be categorized into four sections, namely Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.

  • Type of Questions: The NEET question paper will exclusively consist of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), with no descriptive-type questions included.

  • Total Time Duration: As per the projected NEET exam pattern for 2024, the exam duration is expected to be extended from 3 hours( 180 minutes) to 3 hours and 20 minutes (220 minutes).

  •  For Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, it is anticipated that the exam duration will be set at 265 minutes.

  • Negative Marking: In line with the anticipated NEET exam marking pattern, there will be a deduction of 1 mark for each incorrect answer.

  • Marks for Correct Answer: Candidates are expected to receive 4 marks for every correct response.

  • Total Number of Questions: It is anticipated that each section of NEET 2024 will encompass 50 questions, and candidates will be required to attempt 45 questions in total.

  • NEET Total Marks: The NEET 2024 exam is expected to be designed for a total of 720 marks.

NEET Marking Scheme Languages/Medium of Paper 

  • NEET 2024 will be conducted in 13 different languages at various exam centers. Candidates will be aksed to select their preferred medium of the question paper during the NEET Application process.

  • Once the choice is made, candidates will not be able to alter it at a later stage.

  • Candidates who choose English as their medium will exclusively receive the English test booklet.

  • Those who opt for Hindi will be provided with a Bilingual Test Booklet containing questions in both Hindi and English.

  • Candidates selecting vernacular languages will receive a Bilingual Test Booklet in the chosen language and English.

  • In case of any ambiguity in the translation of a question, the English version will be deemed final.

Instructions for Completing NEET 2024 OMR Sheet:

NEET aspirants should be familiar with the instructions before filling out the NEET 2024 OMR sheet. Below are guidelines on how to appropriately complete a NEET OMR sheet:

  • In accordance with the guidelines issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), all answers in the NEET exam must be indicated using a ballpoint pen.

  • The necessary ballpoint pen will be provided by the authorities within the exam hall.

  • Each candidate is required to mark the test booklet code on the NEET OMR sheet 2024.

  • According to the NEET 2024 Exam Pattern, once answers are marked by the candidates on the OMR sheet, they cannot be erased.

How will NEET 2024 Scores be Calculated?

The formula for calculating the NEET Score 2024 is: 

NEET Score 2024 Calculation Formula= (Number of Correct Answers × 4) – (Number of Incorrect Answers × 1).

Normalization will be used to make things fair if the difficulty levels of question papers vary in different exam sessions.

Ans: No, NEET does not enforce any sectional time limits. Candidates are allowed  to manage their time within the overall duration allocated for the exam.

Q4. Can I choose Bengali as the medium if I am taking the exam in Delhi?

Ans: No, in accordance with the current regulations, opting for vernacular mediums in NEET is constrained by geographical considerations linked to examination centers. Candidates selecting a regional language can take the exam in that specific state only.

Q5. What is the passing criterion in NEET?

Ans: NEET sets the cutoff at 50 percentile for UR, 40 percentile for reserved categories, and 45 for UR-PwD. The corresponding pass marks for these NEET cutoff percentiles are disclosed along with the results. In the 2023 exam, the pass marks ranged from 137-720, 136-107, and 136-121 for UR, SC/ST/OBC, and UR-PwD respectively.
