CBSE Class 9 English Section A Reading Skills Syllabus (20 marks)

Reading Comprehension through Unseen Passage (20  marks)

  • Discursive passage of 400-450 words. (10 marks)

  • A case-based factual passage incorporating visual elements like statistical data or charts will be provided. This segment is expected to span 200-250 words and will be allocated a weightage of 10 marks in the evaluation. (10 marks)

(The total length of two passages should not be less than 600-700 words)

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Objective Type Questions, and Very Short Answer Questions will be posed to assess comprehension, interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, and vocabulary skills.

CBSE Class 9 English Section B Writing and Grammar Skills Syllabus

Grammar Skills Syllabus (10 marks)

  • Determiners

  • Subject-Verb concord  

  • Reported speech includes: Commands and requests, Statements, Questions

The secondary-level courses aim to solidify a strong professional command of grammatical elements and precision levels. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar proficiency will be evaluated through Gap Filling, Editing, and Transformation exercises. Participants are expected to attempt ten out of twelve questions in this assessment.

Writing Skills Syllabus (10 marks)

  • Students will be asked to compose a descriptive paragraph within a word limit of 100-120 words, depicting a person, event, or situation based on visual or verbal cues. They are required to choose one out of two questions for their response. ( 5 marks)

  • Students will be asked to craft a story based on a given cue or title or to write a diary entry within a word limit of 100-120 words. They must choose and respond to one out of the two provided questions. (5 marks)

Language through Literature (40 marks)

Reference to the Context

  • One extract out of two from Drama / Prose/(5 marks)

  • One extract out of two from Poetry (5 marks)

Multiple Choice / Objective Type Questions will be asked to assess:

  • Interpretation

  • Analysis

  • Inference, 

  • Evaluation, 

  • Appreciation and 

  • Vocabulary

Short & Long Answer Questions 

  • Students must answer four out of five Short Answer Type Questions, each within a concise range of 40-50 words. These questions, sourced from the book "BEEHIVE," are designed to evaluate interpretation, analysis, inference, and evaluation skills. (12 marks)

  • Students must address two of three Short Answer Type Questions within a 40-50-word limit. These questions, derived from Page 5 of the book "MOMENTS," are intended to gauge interpretation, analysis, inference, and evaluation skills.  (6 marks)

  • Students must respond to one of the two Long Answer Type Questions sourced from "BEEHIVE," generating approximately 100-120 words. This task aims to evaluate creativity, imagination, and the ability to extrapolate beyond and across the text. The question may involve a passage-based inquiry from a situation or plot within the text. (6 marks)

  • Candidates must tackle one of the two Long Answer Type Questions extracted from "MOMENTS." This question, centered on theme or plot, demands interpretation, extrapolation beyond the text, inference, or the creation of a character sketch. Responses should be crafted within a range of approximately 100-120 words. (6 marks)
