JEE Score and Percentile Calculation Process
JEE raw score of each candidate is calculated according to their performance and scoring system. For each correct answer candidates get 4 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. However, there is no addition or deduction of marks for unanswered questions.
To compute candidates raw score in JEE, NTA uses the following formula:
JEE Raw Score = {(No. of Correct Answers 4) - Total No. of Wrong Answers}
As the JEE exam is conducted in multiple sessions, NTA applies score normalisation to ensure fairness in the JEE Main 2025 results. The score normalisation considers the difficulty level of the exam when computing candidates' scores. The normalisation process provides candidates with the percentile score, which determines their ranking.
The percentile score is calculated using the following formula:
Total Percentile Score = No. of candidates in JEE session with raw score less than or equal to the total score Total No. of test Takers 100

How JEE Main Merit and Rank List Are Determined?
The JEE All India merit list is created based on the highest scores achieved by candidates across all their attempts. This process involves several key steps, such as:
Step 1: Session Results Preparation
-
The National Testing Agency (NTA) evaluates JEE Main scores for all sessions to create the results. Candidates' best scores from their overall attempts are selected for the final processing.
-
Each session's results include percentile scores for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, as well as the total score. Percentiles are computed separately for each subject.
Step 2: Finalising the Rank List
-
To establish the overall rank list, the highest percentile scores from all sessions are considered. These scores are compiled to create the final merit list.
-
The final NTA score is determined by taking the best percentile from the two sessions. This score, along with subject-specific percentiles, is used to prepare the detailed JEE Main rank list.
