NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria: NTA will conduct the NEET 2025 exam on May 4 through offline mode. The official notification for NEET 2025 was released on February 7, 2025, along with the application form. The information brochure provides key details concerning the NEET exam, including application, exam pattern, and ranking process.
NTA introduces some new changes to conduct NEET on a timely basis. This year, NTA has revised the tie breaking process for ranking candidates.
NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates get the same marks in NEET 2025, the NTA will follow a step-by-step process to resolve the tie and decide who gets a higher rank. Here are the details of the NEET 2025 tie breaking criteria:
1. Higher Marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology)
First, NTA will compare candidates’ scores in the Biology section. The candidate who has scored more marks in Biology will get the higher rank.
2. Higher Marks in Chemistry
If the Biology scores are also the same, then NTA will compare candidates’ scores in the Chemistry section. The candidate with higher marks in Chemistry will get a higher rank.
3. Higher Marks in Physic
If both Biology and Chemistry marks are equal, the candidates’ Physics marks will be compared next, and the candidate with a higher score in Physics will get a higher rank.
4. Fewer Incorrect Answers
If the tie persists even after comparing scores of each section, the number of wrong answers across all three subjects will be considered. The candidate who has made fewer mistakes overall will be ranked higher.
5. Fewer Incorrect Answers in Biology
If the candidates still have the same number of overall mistakes, then NTA will check the mistakes in the Biology section separately. The candidate who has fewer wrong attempts in Biology will get the higher rank.
6. Fewer Incorrect Answers in Chemistry
If the tie still continues, candidates’ mistakes in Chemistry will be considered. The candidate with fewer incorrect answers in Chemistry will get a higher rank.
7. Fewer Incorrect Answers in Physics
If the tie remains even after comparing Biology and Chemistry mistakes, then mistakes in Physics will be checked. The candidate with fewer wrong attempts in Physics will get the higher rank.
8. Random Selection
If the tie remains unresolved even after all the above steps, the final decision will be made through a random draw process. This process will be carried out carefully under the supervision of an independent expert committee to ensure it is completely fair.
Removal of Age Factor in NEET Tie Breaking
Before NEET 2023, NTA considered candidates’ ages for the ranking process. If the tie persisted even after considering candidates’ subject-wise performance, the older candidate was given preference.
However, the National Medical Commission (NMC) removed the age factor from the NEET 2023 tie-breaking policy. Therefore, for NEET 2025, candidates’ age will not be considered while resolving a tie.
