CBSE Class 10 Passing Marks 2025: The CBSE board has set specific criteria for awarding passing certificates to Class 10 students. Unlike class 12 board exams, where students need to achieve a minimum of 33% marks separately for theory and practical exams, class 10 students need overall 33% marks in both papers to pass a subject.

Depending on the marks secured by students, CBSE will allocate grades ranging from A1 to E2. Students scoring above 90 marks will receive an A1 grade, while those scoring below 33 marks fall into the E1 and E2 categories. To achieve passing marks, students should aim for at least a D grade.

CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2025

CBSE follows a relative grading system to rank students based on their performance in the class 10 board exam 2025. The distribution of grades is as follows:

  • A1 – Top 12.5% of students who pass

  • A2 – Next 12.5%

  • B1 – Next 12.5%

  • B2 – Next 12.5%

  • C1 – Next 12.5%

  • C2 – Next 12.5%

  • D1 – Next 12.5%

  • D2 – Bottom 12.5% of passing students

  • E – Students who fail the subject

Key Points of CBSE Class 10 Grading System

Here are the key points of the CBSE class 10 grading system:

  • This grading method is applied when more than 500 students take the exam.

  • If two or more students have identical marks, they receive the same grade.

  • CBSE may make certain minor adjustments to maintain fairness and avoid ties in grading students.

  • If less than 500 students pass the board exam, the grading distribution will follow a similar approach.

CBSE Class 10 Passing Marks 2025 in Theory Subjects

CBSE does not necessitate class 10 students to pass separately for theory and practical exams. However, knowing the minimum marks required in both the exams to achieve the overall passing marks helps in effectively streamlining preparation and reducing exam related stress.
