5 exams to attempt while preparing for JEE Mains: The JEE Main is a challenging test for engineering students in India, held twice a year by the National Testing Agency. It's the first step to getting into top engineering colleges like the IITs and NITs.

The test has two parts:

  • Paper 1 is conducted for B.E./B. Tech programs and

  • Paper 2 is conducted for B.Arch/B.Planning programs.

Paper 1 covers Physics, Chemistry, and Math with multiple-choice questions, while Paper 2 includes Math, Aptitude, and Drawing Tests. It's a challenging exam, hence students must study hard to do well.

There are over 2000 engineering colleges in India, many of which use JEE Main scores for admission, while others have their tests or accept state-level scores.

While JEE Main and JEE Advanced are conducted primarily for admission into the IITs, NIT, IIITs and GFTIs,  there are other exams like WBJEE, AP EAMCET, BITSAT, SRMJEE, and more are majorly conducted for undergraduate admission offered at engineering colleges in the respective state.

In this article, we will discuss 5 exams you should attempt while preparing for JEE Mains to help you pursue undergraduate courses in your dream engineering college.

List of 5 Exams to Attempt while Preparing for JEE Mains

With many choices available, deciding on the most appropriate exam can be overwhelming. Students must make informed decisions regarding which exams to take and which institutes to target to pave the way for a promising career.

Check out the top 5 exams you should try when preparing for JEE Mains. This will help you make intelligent choices.

To be eligible for these exams, aspiring engineers must have completed their 12th-grade education from a recognised board in the Science stream, with Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics as mandatory subjects. Sometimes, English may also be a compulsory requirement in the exam syllabus. Here is the list of 5 exams that you should attempt while preparing for JEE Main Exam 2024:

BITSAT

BITSAT, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is an examination designed for students aspiring to pursue integrated first-degree programs at BITS Pilani. The test provides a gateway to various undergraduate courses, such as B.E., M.Sc., and B.Pharm., offered exclusively by BITS Pilani's Indian campuses.

Moreover, BITSAT-2024 opens avenues for selected joint-collaborative programs with prestigious international universities in Australia and the USA, like RMIT University Melbourne and Iowa State University.

This initiative allows students to experience the best of both worlds by spending their initial two years at BITS Pilani's campus in India and the remaining two years at their chosen foreign university.

BITSAT-2024 will be conducted online, offering candidates flexibility in choosing their test center, day, and slot. With the option to appear twice, candidates can maximise their chances of securing admission by considering the higher of their two scores.

The test fee varies based on the number of attempts, and the application window facilitates seamless scheduling for both sessions. BITSAT-2024 is a pathway for students to embark on their academic journey and explore global learning opportunities.

SRMJEEE

The SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination (SRMJEEE) is the key to admission into BTech and MTech programs at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) and other SRM Group institutes. This national-level exam is essential for aspiring engineers seeking undergraduate or postgraduate studies within the SRM network.

It's a comprehensive test covering math, science, and engineering concepts, conducted through Remote Proctored Online Mode. The exam duration for this exam is two hours and thirty minutes, with multiple-choice questions. UG candidates face 125 questions, while PG candidates face 100.

Each correct answer attempt will help candidates to secure one mark, and there will be no negative markings. A stable internet connection and desktop or laptop computers are necessary for the exam. SRMIST is not responsible for technical glitches, and retakes may be required. SRMJEEE is the pivotal step towards engineering education at SRMIST and affiliated institutes under the SRM Group.

KIITEE

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Entrance Examination, or KIITEE, is a national-level computer-based entrance test conducted by KIIT, Bhubaneswar, that lasts 2.5 hours.  This exam is the gateway to admission for 35 courses except for MBBS, BDS, PG Medical & PG Dental courses. I

The syllabus and exam pattern vary for each course. Following the KIITEE, separate merit lists are prepared for all courses based on candidates' scores. Admission is granted through counseling and seat allocation processes managed by KIIT.

The cut-off rank for counseling is determined based on seat availability across courses. Candidates ranking above the cut-off rank are invited to participate in counseling sessions.

VITEEE:

The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) is organized for admissions into undergraduate engineering courses at VIT institutions. Scheduled tentatively between April 19 and 30, 2024, VITEEE will occur at various locations in India and overseas, with the number of days varying depending on the test city. The exam duration for this exam is two hours and thirty minutes, and candidates are allowed only one attempt.

It consists of multiple-choice questions, with each correct answer help candidates to secure one mark and no marks for incorrect answers. Candidates with 0 marks will be deemed "Not qualified" and cannot participate in the counseling process.

The exam comprises 125 questions, divided into Maths/Biology (40 questions), Physics (35 questions), Chemistry (35 questions), Aptitude (10 questions), and English (5 questions). The examination paper will be in English.

Application and counseling fees are non-refundable. The complete syllabus can be found at www.viteee.vit.ac.in. The Equi-percentile method will be used in the VITE merit list for this computer-based exam.

MHT-CET

The MHT-CET, also known as the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test, is an annual exam held by the Government of Maharashtra. The Directorate of Technical Education retains the responsibility to manage this exam.

The test is for admission to degree courses like Engineering and Pharmacy. In the past, it was also used for Medical courses, but now only NEET is accepted for medical admissions nationwide.

Starting in 2019, the test will be conducted online. The State Common Entrance Test Cell of Maharashtra retains responsibility for issuing the MH CET exam syllabus and marking scheme.

Previously, the test was also used for admission to the undergraduate Planning course at the College of Engineering Pune. However, a separate entrance test for Planning was introduced in 2022.

We hope this article helps you understand the importance of considering exams like BITSAT, SRMJEEE, KIITEE, VITEEE, and MHT-CET, along with JEE Mains for engineering admissions.
